    Success Story with TBL

    202306_newsletter_rakesh

    Rakesh Calton

Professor and Assistant Chair, Department of Clinical Foundations, Ross University School of Medicine

Recognizing the immense potential of TBL, Rakesh Calton, from Ross University School of Medicine, embraced its principles and witnessed a profound impact on his students. TBL facilitated active engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, empowering his students to excel academically. The collaborative tasks inherent in TBL promoted peer learning and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Rakesh’s students thrived in this environment, and their growth became a testament to the effectiveness of TBL.

Integrating InteDashboard into Rakesh's teaching practices has brought notable improvements. It allows him to effortlessly assign resources, track team progress, and provide timely feedback to students. The platform's real-time data analytics enable Rakesh to assess individual and team performance and deliver immediate feedback during TBL sessions.

Rakesh's professional development journey as a medical educator focuses on continuous growth. Attending workshops, conferences, and seminars on innovative methodologies, including TBL, has been crucial to his development. He holds a Fellowship in TBL from Duke-NUS and is currently in the process of completing the TBLC practitioner certification program, further enriching his instructional techniques for fostering student engagement. Furthermore, Rakesh actively conducts educational research, collaborating with colleagues and seeking feedback to refine his approaches.

As we celebrate Rakesh’s progress in his professional development journey, we hope his story resonates with educators around the world. May it inspire them to take that next step in improving the learning experiences of their students and themselves. By embracing innovative methodologies, fostering collaboration, and prioritizing growth, educators can make a profound difference in the lives of their students, just as Rakesh has done.

    Student testimonials from Rakesh's classes:

"Dr. Calton is the absolute best. I have a newfound love for cardiology because of his
lessons. I have never been as excited to attend a lecture as I have with his, knowing that
I will leave the session informed and equipped rather than confused."

"Very interesting and engaging TBL, highly applicable to what we are currently studying
and helps to connect all the pieces from Sem2 and Sem4."

"This has been my favourite TBL thus far at RUSM. The content was delivered in a very
organized way and the pairing with the TBL activities was seamless."
